They were coming to a whole new country and they had to find a way to survive.

Immigrants are more willing to work for longer hours and for less pay than most Americans. Businesses are able to find themselves a source of cheap labor. Immigrants are also more willing to do jobs that Americans would not want to do. Immigrants can also make a city more diverse. These positives can also lead to negatives. Since the immigrants are eager to start making money, they could be exploited for cheap labor. Immigration can also become a social/politcal problem. Also, immigration could lead to more criminal activity, such as drug traficking. The tension between immigrants and Americans could also end up rising.

The United States has become a much more diverse country than it was when it began. In the United States, you could find people of two completely different backgrounds living right next door to each other.
